Book Review & Giveaway - Spice Up Your Life

Book Title: Spice Up Your Life (The Flexitarian Way) by Bindu Grandhi

Book Description:
Too often we are forced to sacrifice taste for healthier fare. With these low-fat recipes rich with savory spices, bland health food is a thing of the past. Focusing primarily on fruits, grains, and vegetables with selected protein, these dishes will have you enjoying each meal without the guilt! From appetizers and sauces to main dishes and desserts, every meal is covered in this instructional, step-by-step cookbook. Kick it up a notch and add a little spice to your cooking with Spice up your Life!

Bindu Grandhi developed a passion for flavorful flexitarian cooking in her early 20s. Her knowledge of good health and nutrition comes from her mother, Vasantha Prasad, author of Indian Vegetarian Cooking from an American Kitchen (Random House) and her father, Balasa L. Prasad, a physician and author of Stop Overeating For Good (Avery). In her first cookbook, Bindu touts the health benefits of eating a flexitarian diet comprised primarily of vegetables, legumes, whole grains, spices, fruits, and nuts, with an occasional serving of chicken and fish. She believes that eating a tasty and satisfying nutritional meal is exactly what our minds crave and our bodies need. She earned an MBA from New York University and has 10 years of corporate experience. She works part-time and lives with her family in Westchester County, New York.

My Thoughts:
A lot of people are looking for healthy but still tasty ways to prepare their meals. But, it can be quite a challenge to end up making more than the same old salads and other standard low fat & low sodium dishes and still keep everyone happy and interested.

I had never heard of flexitarian before I rad this cook book. The word means "...a primarily plant-based diet composed of grains, vegetables, and fruits, which also occasionally includes protein from lean meat, fish, poultry, or dairy. This diet is low in saturated fat and high in fiber..."

I made several recipes from Spice Up Your Life, I loved them all and they were all easy to prepare.

My favorites were -

Garlic & Cheese Toast, doesn't that just sound yummy??
You can see her walk you through the recipes below

Chili Chicken
